Tour in Germany

A few weeks ago, I was invited to come and play in Germany, through a connection made last year when I attended a house concert. My first TOUR in Germany!! I heard I was going to open for an American "vintage soul pop duo", Genna and Jesse (check them out!), so I thought it would be a great experience to connect with and support more experienced musicians, and to see if a German audience would connect to me and my music.

First, let me say how warmly I was welcomed by just about everyone I met. I have enjoyed wonderful hospitality, great and deep conversations (in German, which was a fun surprise!), lovely feedback and I can say that I have made really great new friends in Genna and Jesse. They are wonderful! From the lovely older lady who helped me make my coffee to the warm host who gave me her attic, to the couple giving up their bed and spare room last minute, I am truly grateful! Vielen Dank für Ihre Gastfreundschaft! I was also given the green top in the picture, just because the lady thought I would look good in bright green. So cool! The mosquitoes had a field day with the parts that weren't covered though. Evil creatures...

Second, although I am learning to play the guitar to accompany myself here and there, I really do need a guitar player during gigs. I am grateful to Toni who stepped in last minute and who was generous with his time and enthusiasm. Then there was Jesse learning some of my songs and Genna singing along on "Dance", which was so much fun! It was really nice to see the audience having fun with that, too!

There were some challenges along the way, like a canceled gig, very last minute rehearsals because the guitar player came into the picture very last minute, playing by myself one night because he got stuck in a situation, to name a few. It is part of the adventure, and I learnt to just go with it, communicate clearly and to be kind above all else. In the end, it is all about love and giving my best to the people who come to listen!

The trip ended with Genna, Jesse and I heading to Cologne to hang out and have some fun. We ended up going to Tankstelle for their weekly open mic night, and played some of our own songs. You will find little Instagram snippets from that night here, here and here.

Thank you to everyone who made this trip memorable, beautiful, encouraging and adventurous!
